Autumn Game Fair, Ardingly, 2nd & 3rd October 2021
We didn't attend the show last year due
to the Covid situation at the time and this year's Autumn
Game Fair was somewhat challenging for us. Whilst we had
sufficient members on hand at the marquee, only Kevin Reeves
and Tony Kaatze were available for the demonstrations and
"Have a Go”, casting tuition as unfortunately neither Mark
Brown or Mike Richardson could help on this weekend.
On the Saturday we had to cope with strong winds and very
heavy rain, but despite this, four brave souls wanted to
“Have a Go”, so Tony and Kevin took turns to get wet. The
demonstrations were abandoned however, as none of the public
would want to stand in the wind and rain to watch and
demonstrating the intricacies of fly casting would have been
more than a challenge given the conditions.
On the Sunday the weather improved considerably and apart
from one or two short showers it was dry and warm. A further
16 people had a go at the casting and there was one that
wanted tuition to correct some bad habits. Kevin's
demonstrations were well supported as there were a good
number of seats in the grass area near the pond and the
catering stands were also right next to our marquee. The
Ardingly Showground personnel had done a good job of
clearing the weed and rushes so the pond looked much more
inviting.
A good number of people visited our marquee on the Sunday
showing interest in joining and wanting lessons and had the
weather on the Saturday been more favourable we probably
would have seen a lot more people showing interest and
having a go.
One young lad who was a fishing fanatic, had a go a couple
of times with Tony and fished the pond at the end of both
days, catching rudd, perch and trout (yes trout !), the one
we saw was about 8 inches long and looked blue/ grey with
faint spots. We later learned that a few small rainbow trout
had recently been put in the pond.
This same lad also won the fly rod kit in
the raffle, which he promptly set up and had a go in the
pond.
Our thanks go to those members that helped set up on the
Friday, attend the weekend, and pack away on the Sunday,
without who's help we would struggle to attend the shows.
22nd June 2021-
Charity Fishing / Social Day, Sunday 20th June 2021
Although we weren’t
able to hold it in 2020 due to the coronavirus restrictions,
with the regulations now more relaxed,
Cinder Hill Fly Fishing members
raised a stunning £730 for Macmillan
Cancer Support
in this,
our 4th charity event and we
have now raised over £2,200 for this very worthwhile cause.
Val and Mandy ran the excellent
catering as usual, with meat supplied by member Jim Awcock,
while in sometimes challenging conditions, a total of around 40
trout to 4lb were landed by those attending.

January 2021- Coronavirus Update
With the country now in the third lockdown in
order to try and restrict the spread of the COVID-19 virus,
although angling was initially again banned, fortunately, thanks
to the efforts of the Angling Trust in making representations to the
Government, we can still go fishing, albeit
with some restrictions in order to maintain "social distancing"
and reduce the risks from COVID-19, angling being recognised as
being of great benefit to ones physical and mental wellbeing in
this time of difficulty.
Cinder Hill Fly Fishing as a Syndicate are
members of the Angling Trust and Fish Legal and many of the
members are also individual members of the Trust. However, for
all those anglers who are not already an individual member, now
would be a very good time to sign up to add your support to our
national organisation representing angling in all it’s forms at
the highest level, which does so much to fight for our fish and
fishing as well as offering discounts on the purchase of various
items ranging from fishing tackle, white goods and day tickets
on some waters and includes 3rd Party Civil Liability Insurance.
The more members they have the louder will be their voice in
representing angling interests in the UK.
At the moment, the Trust is offering a free
gift for all those taking out individual membership
and paying by Debit/Credit Card or by Direct Debit. The
annual subscription is just £29 (£25 for Senior Citizens of 65
or over). Click
on the join tab on the left to visit their website for more
information and to join.
